Nas protege Dave East has been one of the most consistent artist in rap today. Following his signing with Nas in 2014 the Harlem native has been putting out solid projects year after year. East’s consistency is one of the driving factors behind him pushing more and more to the forefront of the culture. With the release of his newest EP Paranoia 2 East continues to familiarize fans with his presence and rhyme style. Paranoia 2 is the follow up to the 2017 album Paranoia which was inspired by the lifestyle of Dave East. With his street lingo and depiction of street life; East is a hit away from becoming a star falling into a similar lane to Meek Mill and continuing the legacy of artist like Dipset and The Lox. Dave East is one of the most complete artist in Hip Hop today. He is a gifted lyricist and he showcases this talent throughout Paranoia 2. He follows a lineage of New York street rappers painting fans a vivid picture of life in the hood. He has swag, lyrical ability, and great work ethic, but one of his best qualities is his story telling ability. On the record "Corey" East tells us of a friend who watched his rise as a rapper. He speaks on Corey initially being supportive then later distancing himself as jealousy set in. We also see East's story telling ability on the record "I Found Keisha" a follow up to the record "Keisha" on his 2016 project Kairi Chanel. "I Found Keisha" brings us back to the story of Keisha a fling that robbed East and East getting his revenge via his boy finding Keisha and taking care of her.
With P2 we see East making an effort to appeal to a wider audience with the record woke up featuring Tory lanes and the record Thank You which is one of his most catchy tracks to date. P2 also features appearances from legends T.I. on the record “Annoying” and Lloyd Banks on the record “Violent”. Dave East often features rappers he grew up listening to paying homage to those who influenced him. This is most likely why he is embraced by the legends like no other. P2 is a very solid project that helps to solidify Dave East’s position in Hip Hop as a voice of the streets and a young O.G. in his own right. We at Critix Music give Paranoia 2, 3 ½ out of 5 X’s.
