Cozz: Effected (Album Review)

Following up his 2014 debut album "Cozz & Effect". Cozz recently released "Effected" his second full length LP on J.Cole’s Dreamville Imprint. The 24 year old Los Angeles's rapper is still fairly new to the game and puts his best foot forward on this album, sharpening his skills with his detailed lyricism and superb story telling. “Effected” consists of 14 tracks assisted by a powerful line up of featured artists including Kendrick Lamar, Curren$y and of course J.Cole. Production on “Effected” was on point as well, featuring tracks by Meez, Soul professa, Hollywood JB, J.Cole and more. Stand out tracks include "Hustlas story" Featuring Kendrick Lamar. The title is self explanatory, Cozz shows off some flawless storytelling over a classic, bassy, west coast beat, while Kendrick compliments the track perfectly with his harmonizing flow.

J.Cole lends a some relatable bars on "Zendaya" Cozz shows his vulnerability as he raps about his come up and future aspirations over a airy down tempo beat paired a with a dope slowed down eerie vocal sample. On "Badu" Cozz and Curren$y display undeniable chemistry sharing energetic bossy bars over a soulful jazzy instrumental for a smoothed out soulful vibe. "Effected" gets better with each listen and displays Cozz's hunger, growth, and evolution as an artist. Cozz carries his whole album flawlessly. Even among the top tier talent of his featured guests, he more then holds his own. It’s easy to see why J Cole invested in his talent.
